My Story
It was a typical afternoon, I was searching for something in my mother’s closet and came across a vintage suitcase filled with hundreds of hand printed silk scarves. Each scarf with its own unique intricate patterns and vibrant colors, sat pristine and patiently waiting to be rediscovered. The journey of these scarves from India to the US is part of my family’s story; they represent hopes, dreams, and changing direction. As I sat with them in the closet, and reflected on my two decades in the industry— studying gems, understanding metals, grading diamonds, establishing my own quality standards, and my ultimate love of creating jewelry that fits the human— my dream to open my own atelier, ILA SODHANI, was born.
Weaving a piece of my history and my love into each piece I create, my current designs embrace the patterns and colors found in these scarves. It is thought that suitcases represent parts of the past that you carry in the present. My wish is that my creations will be carried across continents and passed along through the years.
